I'm working on a collection of paintings on the power of sunrise inspired by the philosophy of John Ruskin who recommended artists to study the dawn, 'to calm and purify' the mind of unwanted thoughts.

Painting with Light I'm currently working on a series of books entitled, 'Painting with Light' in the English Lake District. It has always been a long-term ambition of mine to write about and paint perceptions of colour in the landscape. This project will be completed from my notes and sketchbooks, compiled directly from Nature. Working with a sketchbook through the seasons is invaluable to inform the 'seeing eye.' In sketches I work quickly with dynamic lines, tracing the growth of Nature whilst intuitively finding the relationships between the subjects within the composition. |
Romantic Landscapes I sometimes take the inspirations that captivated the Lakes Poets as a starting point for my own creative process 'to see into the life of things,' the essential heart of the Lake Country, to create living images of the spirit of place. I have recently completed the University of Cumbria's MA in Literature, Romanticism & the English Lake District; this has deepened my knowledge of the literary landscape of Cumbria. Visiting these cultural landscapes with new knowledge heightens the senses and takes the eye deeper into the full meaning of the sense of place. |
Commissions Having completed my studies for now, I will now be available to take commissions.
