Gallery Four: Pictures of the Sublime Gallery Five: Complete list Gallery One: The Spirit of Nature From the back of one of the cards: Ravenglass lies at the foot of a valley on the big estuary formed by the coming together of three rivers, the Esk, the Mite and the Irt. At the time of the Roman occupation, Ravenglass was an important seaport with a large and well-protected harbour. Since then the harbour has been silted up, but the epic atmosphere has remained, and a feeling of grandeur long gone pervades the air and impresses the visitor with its melancholy splendour. As recently as the last century, boats sailed from here to the Isle of Man and it was a favourite landing point for smugglers. Tiana Marie's painting captures the remote but still tangible power which haunts the ancient harbour of Ravenglass to this day.
