EMPATHY OF THE HEART –
FIRE OF NATURE’S INNER EYE

The English Lake District has for many generations attracted artists of the Romantic Tradition such as Ruskin, Turner and Wordsworth who have seen the Beauty of Nature with the perception of an inner eye of Truth. The Ice Age glaciers have moulded a crucible of creative power and a timeless unity of Nature which cannot be sought with the mind, it can only be perceived with an empathy of the soul.
For Lakeland artist Tiana Marie, who has dipped her brush into this molten fire of Light, empathy is not simply a word, it is a philosophy.
Empathy is an intuitive understanding of what one 'sees', an understanding of the Heart which by-passes the intellect.
That 'seeing' with the outer eye is transferred to the inner eye – that centre of creative inner fire, through which, with the co-operation of the artist’s optical memory, the scene which Tiana sees is re-created complete with its inner light, that energy-in-motion which was the First Cause and creator of it.
This intuition is only the beginning.
The colours of the artist’s palette have changed with the passage of time.
In the beginning was the colour Indigo and Darkness – representing the Spirit of Nature unformed – inspirations lay sleeping in the imagination of the artist, cocooned in the shadows of night, polarised by the colour Cadmium Orange, representing the joy of the sun.
In later years, the brighter hues of sunrise penetrated these velvet regions of the Unseen and the mystery of Nature was slowly revealed as a revelation.
Tiana’s paintings are private meditations on this mystery and the even deeper Truth of an unfettered imagination at its heart, which is free to create at will, without rule or limit.
This imagination can light on a flower, tree or mountain and perceive within each the same creative light expressed in an infinity of form and colour – fleeting impressions of the natural forms produced by the unstoppable fire of the Creative Mind.
This dance of Joy within the Heart of Nature communicates directly to the heart of the viewer – themselves a creation of this inner light – awakening a Nature Memory within, a harmony of creative joy in which the viewer becomes aware of his own heritage as a creator of Light.
Tiana Marie is creating in her work a new and infinitely expanded view of Nature – a view in which all are linked by this inner Light of creation in a never-ending, ever evolving dance of energy, power and Light.
